The Relay Emergency Valve transmits the driver's brake demand to operate brakes in the trailer In the event of a pressure loss in the trailer supply (red) line, e.g. from an intentional or accidental uncoupling, the valve's emergency feature will automatically apply the trailer service brakes using the air stored in the trailer's tank. This function is also present when the trailer is charged from zero pressure; the trailer service brakes are applied partially until the load pressure exceeds about 3.0 bar.
